I don’t know if you were laughing because of how he was shaking before he fell, but it wasn’t due to him being nervous. The wind was gusting pretty bad the day of the event. He was warned and begged by family and friends not to attempt the crossing because of the wind but he was a true showman; the show must go on.
Once he started across, he stopped several times to wait out the wind. He continued though. He could have turned around but he was Karl Wallenda, the same man who fell with several family members during one show years before. That fall killed two and severely injured others, including him. But he recovered and got back on the wire.
I guess you could say he did die doing what he loved.
In 2011 his grandson wanted to do the crossing that killed Karl and in a case of “fuck me”, the day his grandson was to attempt it…the wind picked up again. However, Nik Wallenda successfully completed it after ignoring family and friends from attempting it because of the wind.
What a fucking way to make a living huh?
